The University of Waterloo in Ontario has announced it will be awarding doctorates posthumously to two Iranian students who were killed January 8 when the Ukrainian airliner in which they were returning to Canada from a vacation in Iran was shot down by the Pasdaran. Mari Foroutan (right) was a PhD candidate in geography and Mansour Esna-ashary-Esfahani (left) was a doctoral candidate in civil engineering. University President Feridun Ham-dullahpur said the pair had an impact that was “profound both personally and across our university community.”
