Population to be halved

November 29, 2024

Deputy Health Minister Ali-Reza Raisi says Iran’s population will be down to 42 million by 77 years from now in 2101. That will be less than half the current population of 88 million. The Iran Times carried a story three years ago about the UN estimating that Iran’s population will top out at 105 million in the 2060s and then fall. But this is the first estimate of how rapidly it is expected to fall because of the very low birth rate prevailing. The deputy minister released the figures to support Supreme Leader Ali Khamenehi’s effort to boost the birth rate.
