Police charge hostage taker shooting away

April 21, 2017

A hostage-taker in Mashhad surrounded by the police tried to commit suicide when a police team charged his position.

News reports were in disagreement, but it appears the hostage-taker shot himself in the neck, but did not succeed in killing himself.

Some accounts said all six people taken hostage were injured and hospitalized, but none said whether they were injured by their captor or by the officers charging his position.

The news accounts also failed to say why the man had taken the six people captive.  News accounts described them as a mother, her two children and three other relatives.

According to one account, the police decided to charge the hostage-taker when he sought to flee the area with a couple of the hostages as cover.

The hostage-taker opened fire as the police raided the house where he was lodged with his hostages.
