An F-4 Phantom fighter jet crashed August 4 while trying to land in Tangestan on the Persian Gulf coast. The Mehr news agency said both crew members ejected safely. Flightglobal Insight estimated in January that Iran had 47 F-4s still flying of the 225 bought by the Shah.
