Two men who fled Iran and were trying to reach Britain were among five people killed near a refugee camp on the French coast at Dunkirk December 14. While Iran’s government usually just ignores such people, in this case the government has become incensed and has repeatedly denounced France as if it were behind the killing.
Iran now has escalated the rhetoric and is demanding that the French government pay compensation to the families of the pair. The Islamic Republic escalated the matter after the French government began loudly demanding that Iran free three French citizens it has been holding for years.
