She was 90 years old.  Her collection of short storis, published in 1948, was the first such publication by an Iranian woman.  Her novel, “Savushun,” was the first novel by an Iranian woman.  It was translated to critical acclaim in the English-speaking world as “A Persian Requiem.”  Born in Shiraz, she attended Mehr Ain, the city’s bilingual Persian-English school. She began writing pieces for Radio Tehran in order to support her family after her father died during World War II.
