A senior Iranian military commander says the country’s military is just waiting for a wrong move by Israel to destroy it.
Major General Hossain Salami said the enemies of the Islamic Revolution have been repelled, adding, “No one has eroded their [Israeli] power as much as we have.”
“We have great potential to overcome our opponents,” said General Salami, the commander of the Pasdaran.
He said the military in Iran was just waiting for Israel to make a wrong move and then the armed forces would destroy Israel. Salami’s comments were the latest in a series made by Iranian military leaders saying Iran would destroy Israel.
Until about a year ago, Iranian officials were very careful not to say Iran would destroy Israel but to stick to the careful formulation of Ruhollah Khomeini, who fashioned the policy: “Israel must be wiped off the face of the earth,” without saying anything about who would do the wiping off.
Only in the past year, Iranian military officers have begun saying Iran would do the wiping off.
“We grew up in war and we have got used to defeating the enemy, and we have, by God’s grace, overcome them in all arenas,” he said.
“We learned how to live independently, and that is why everybody wants to defeat us, but the reality is that we keep moving forward with power,” Salami said.
