All the major Tehran dailies last week quoted the chief judge on the Court of Administrative Justice as calling former President Ahmadi-nejad a liar. Judge Mohammad-Jafar Montazeri said, “The former president would lie and openly violate laws. When people see the highest executive in the land violating the law, whom can they trust?” Montazeri focused on the case of Saeed Mortazavi (photo), who was accused in the deaths of three detainees after the 2009 post-election protests. Ahmadi-nejad named Mor-tazavi to head the Social Security Fund. But Mortazavi’s court ruled that no one facing such charges could serve in such a position. Ahmadi-nejad simply ignored the court ruling and kept Mortazavi in his post.
