Under the law, there were supposed to be numerous price hikes at Now Ruz to continue the five-year phase-out of subsidies on energy, food and other goods and services.
Shortly before Now Ruz, officials responded to queries by saying no decision had yet been made on any price hikes.
Since Now Ruz, only one announcement has been noticed. That was made Saturday by the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Co. It said that in line with the subsidies phase-out it had increased the price of aviation fuel sold for foreign flights to 11,435 rials per liter (about 93 cents) effective March 25.
Some analysts think the government is worried about public disorders if it decrees broad price hikes when inflation is going through the roof and when sanctions are hammering the economy. The general belief is that there will be no price hikes in products purchased by the general public.
