Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleymani (center), commander of Iran’s Qods Force, was seen rallying soldiers in western Syria in photos that appeared on Twitter last Thursday. Reuters reported that day that Soleymani was in the western Syrian province of Latakia. The news agency said Soleymani was seen addressing Iranian officers and Hezbollah fighters with a microphone while clad in dark-colored clothes. The 58-year-old Soleymani has previously been spotted in Syria and Iraq during major battles against the Islamic State. Syria has several offensives now underway against rebel groups other than the Islamic State.
