Iranian environmental officials reported Monday that an oil spill that occurred more than two weeks ago is now “under control.” The announcement said the oil slick had been “stopped” and the pollution “isolated.” Fifteen days earlier, officials said a 48-inch oil pipeline had burst in the south and oil had leaked 10 to 15 hours before anyone noticed! They said the oil had formed a slick 20 kilometers along the Persian Gulf coast and five kilometers out into the gulf. In between the two announcements, officials have been silent.
