and other state agencies will go offline starting next month to save the country from the “untrustworthy” Internet that is controlled “by one or two countries.”   Speaking at Amir Kabir University, Taqipur said the purpose was to protect the nation’s intelligence from foreign powers.  Calling the Internet unreliable, he said the shift was the first step in moving the country away from the Internet and into an Iranian Intranet in 2013.  That implied Iranians would be shut out of the Internet, something the public has suspected but which Iranian officials have always claimed was not their intent.  Taqipur said the establishment of the Intranet “will create a situation where the precious intelligence of the country won’t be accessible” to foreigners.  He didn‘t explain how the information would be accessible to Iranians while shutting out foreigners.
