The New York Times has issued a statement saying, “We stand by our reporting,” regarding a September 17 story that said Supreme Leader Ali Khamenehi was so ill he could not even sit up in bed. Hours later, Khamenehi walked across a stage and gave a speech. He has made several public appearances since, including speeches while standing at a microphone and speaking in a strong voice. The regime has delighted itself ridiculing the newspaper for its obvious error. The Times in turn said it contacted the Iranian government before it published the story and gave it an opportunity to comment, but Iran “chose not to respond.”
