The day’s events provide fun for Iranian-Americans in the National Capital region but are also a way to introduce this high point of Persian culture to others in the area.
The event is free, except for the food. The Now Ruz celebration includes a Haft Sin table, flameless fire jumping, art activities, board games and a scavenger hunt.
There will also be Persian stories told by Xanthe Gresham, performances by the Nomad Dancers and music played by DJs from Radio Javan and vocalist Monika Jalili.
Persian food from the Moby Dick House of Kabob will be available for sale as well.
Tickets are required for the Jalili concert at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Those tickets are free. Up to four per person can be reserved in advance through Ticketmaster. A limited number will be distributed the date of the performance beginning an hour before show time at the Meyer Auditorium.
The event in the Freer and Sackler Galleries at 1050 Independence Ave SW has been held for several years through a grant from Jahangir and Eleanor Amuzegar.
