Sadeq Larijani (photo), the chairman of the Judiciary, says the 86-man Assembly of Experts has the power to elect a new Supreme Leader when the post becomes vacant, but does not have the power to supervise the Leader. The Constitution, however, gives the body the authority to remove the Supreme Leader from office, which would appear to be the most complete form of supervision.
