No new envoy

July 11, 2014

The Rohani Administration has denied a report by the Bloomberg news agency that it plans to send Mohammad Nahavandi, the chief of staff to President Rohani, to New York as Iran’s UN ambassador.  In April, the Foreign Ministry said it planned to file a lawsuit against the United States for refusing to issue a visa for its ambassador selectee, Hamid Aboutalebi, whom it continues to insist is Iran’s ambassador to the UN.  But it hasn’t yet filed any lawsuit.  The UN committee that handles problems with the host country took up the issue in April and refused to take any action.
