Parvaresh admitted that 13 airports where Iran Air flies in Europe now refuse to sell jet fuel to it. He did not say where Iran Air is able to buy fuel, but many of its flights make a short hop from Western Europe to Eastern Europe to fuel up before heading back to Tehran. What Parvaresh failed to note is that the United States does not sanction jet fuel sales to Iran. The US sanctions law threatens sanctions on foreign firms that sell refined oil to Iran, but it only applies after more than $5 million in annual sales. That is enough to allow jet fuel sales at European airports. But one firm after another has just decided to halt sales to Iranian airplanes rather than take their chances on American anger.
