A hardline ayatollah and father-in-law of President Raisi has re-written history and told his congregation that during the monarchy most people did not have bread to eat, while the Islamic Republic has given them “electricity, highways” and other facilities. Ahmad Alam-ol-hoda (photo), who is the most powerful religious figure in Mashhad, said, “During the Shah there was no electricity and no asphalted roads, but now it is 42 years we are fighting America and at the same time asphalting roads….” He said fighting the United States means being alive, while before the people of Iran “were dead.”
