Iran has named a new ambassador to the United Nations. Majid Takht-Ravanchi (photo), 61, has worked in President Rohani’s office this past year, but previously was a deputy foreign minister and ambassador to Switzerland. He was also one of those on the team negotiating the nuclear deal with the United States. Since there is no Iranian embassy in Washington, Iran’s ambassador to the UN is effectively the main contact in US-Iran relations, such as they are.
