Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, announced June 17 that Iran has uncovered a vast American-run cyber espionage network and that several US spies had been arrested. He didn’t give any specific number, however. The announcement caused some head-scratching, since cyber espionage is routinely run from the country doing the spying and spies are not sent into the targeted country.
