New range claim

June 20-2014

Mojtaba Zonur, a cleric assigned to the Pasdaran, has told a Pasdar magazine that Iran’s missiles can take out the US air and naval base on the island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.  If that is true (and don’t bet any money on it), that means Iran has a missile with a range of 4,000 kilometers (2,500 miles), which is double the 2,000-kilometer range Iran has long been claiming for its biggest missile.  But Zonur just mentioned Diego Garcia as a potential target.  He never said Iran had a new missile with greater range, leading some to suspect he was just making up the threat to Diego Garcia and didn’t know how far away it was.
