Cleric Mohammad-Jafar Montazeri has been named prosecutor general of Iran by the chairman of the Judiciary, Sadeq Larijani. Montazeri succeeds Ebrahim Raisi, who was elevated last month to head the Astan Qods Razavi Foundation, which oversees the Shrine of Imam Reza in Mashhad, after the death of Abbas Vaez-Tabasi, who had held that post since the revolution.
