Farnaz Fassihi has been named UN correspondent by The New York Times. Born in the US to Iranian parents, she shuttled back and forth between Iran and Portland, Oregon, as a child. She joined The Wall Street Journal in Baghdad in 2003 and then shifted to the Times in 2019, when it was forced to close its Tehran bureau. She covered Iran from New York.
