New news is Old

November 29, 2024

Kamal Kharrazi, a former foreign minister who now chairs Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, says Iran may increase the range of its missiles, in a clear threat to Europe. Missiles now don’t reach beyond 2,000 kilometers, which means they cannot reach Western Europe. Kharrazi said, “We have so far considered the sensitivity of Westerners, particularly the Europeans.

But, when they don’t consider our sensitivities, especially regarding the issue of the territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic, there is no reason for us to continue to consider their sensitivities. Therefore, there is a possibility the range of Iran’s missiles will increase.” There is one problem with this threat. Back in November 2019, then Deputy Defense Minister Qasem Taqizadeh said Iran was already working to increase its missile range. In the five years since then, the Iran Times has seen no further claims about increased missile range.
