Supreme Leader Ali Khamenehi has appointed Hojatoleslam Ali-Reza Arafi to the 12-man Council of Guardians to succeed Ayatollah Mohammad Momen, who died in February.  He also re-appointed for six-year terms Ayatollahs Sadeq Larijani, current chairman of the Judiciary, and Mohammad Yazdi, a former chairman of the Judiciary.  The 12 members of the council re-elected Ahmad Jannati, 93, as their leader.  He has been a member of the council since 1980 and its leader since 1992.
