Jafar Imanpour, 74, traveled from Iran in early September to visit his family in Port Coquitlam, which is part of Vancouver metropolitan area.
On September 25, at about 5: 15 p.m., Imanpour told his family he was going for a 15-minute walk. He never returned.
The RCMP issued a missing person alert the following day and has been searching for the man ever since.
Nothing has been found—no body, no clothing. No one has reported any sightings.
Supt. Claude Wilcott, officer in charge of the Coquitlam RCMP, said, “I think it would be devastating for any family to have to go through what the Imanpour family has been going through for the past two months. The truth is, we don’t have any active leads right now but I know someone must have seen something.”
The missing man’s son, Mehrdad Imanpour, “Our lives have stopped since my father went missing…. We have tried every possible way to find him but could not,” he said. “The only way left for us is getting help from the public.”
At a press conference in early October, RCMP spokesman Cpl. Jamie Chung said the case was unusual. “He went for a walk at 5:15 in the afternoon,” Chung said. “It is very busy and it was still daylight, so somebody somewhere must have seen him.”
The family has offered a $5,000 reward for information that helps locate Imanpour, who has visited his family before and is familiar with the area.
Coquitlam RCMP officers and police dogs have patrolled the area on foot, and also by helicopter. A team of 36 volunteers from Coquitlam Search and Rescue conducted a search as well.
Chung said Imanpour, a retired teacher, speaks very limited English and may be forgetful at times. He takes medication for high blood pressure but didn’t take the pills with him. Imanpour is described as five-foot-11, 192 pounds, with a medium build. He’s balding with a white moustache.
He was last seen wearing a dark blue baseball cap, black jacket, blue jeans, black runners and glasses.
