Using reverse osmosis technology, the first section that was started up this month has a capacity of 20,000 cubic meters a day. Currently, 85 water desalination units, with a production capacity of about 400,000 cubic meters per day, are under construction across the southern and northern coastlines. The Mehr news agency said the Bandar Abbas project was funded by the private sector at a cost of $204 million. Another plant with a capacity of 1 million cubic meters a day is planned at Bandar Abbas with completion in 2021. It will supply water inland to Kerman and Yazd provinces.
