Supreme Leader Ali Khamenehi, who has sole pardon power in the Islamic Republic, pardoned 1,241 inmates for the Eid ul-Adha and Eid ul-Qadir holidays. There are not yet any reports indicating any of those freed were political prisoners. Twenty political prisoners have been freed since President Rohani took office and more were expected to be freed in the latest holiday amnesty.
