The Oil Ministry says it has boosted natural gas production by half in just the last year and has now passed the milestone of 1 billion cubic meters in a single day. The ministry said production was 670 million cubic meters in early 2020, but hit 1.04 million January 23. Oil Minister Bijan NamdarZanganeh chided Tehranis recently for wasting gas used for home heating, saying usage this winter was up 15 percent from last year. He said the problem was that “people think if they leave their windows open, the corona will go away.”
