Health Minister Mohammad-Reza Zafarqandi has announced the emigration of nurses, physicians and other medical specialists in the last half of the last Persian year “significantly decreased” compared to the same period in the previous year. He gave no numbers. A week earlier, Ahmad Nejatian of the Nursing System Organization announced that a number of hospital wards have been shuttered because there are not enough nurses to staff them. Mohammad Sharifi Moqaddam of the Nurses Association said Iran’s nurses-to-bed ratio now stands at 0.8 versus the international standard of 2.5
