Mohammad-Ali Salamat (photo) was executed publicly November 12 in Hamedan for sexually assaulting more than 200 women, some of whom he raped. He conned many of the women with promises of marriage or financial assistance.
Salamat, 43, a pharmacist and gym owner, was arrested in January, so his journey to the gallows was swift for the Islamic Republic. It was also one of the rare public executions now held in Iran. It was believed to be the largest case of sexual assault in the country’s history.
