Majlis speaker Ali Larijani has denounced the United States for cutting off its payments to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) that serves Palestinian refugees. He said the move was illegal because it violated a 1949 UN General Assembly resolution. But that resolution merely urges countries to contribute to UNRWA. What’s more, Iran makes only a token contribution of $20,000 a year, the next-to-smallest contribution by any country, while the United States paid a third of a billion dollars annually until President Trump stopped payments this month.
