Kazem Sajjadi (photo), the Foreign Ministry’s director general for expatriate affairs, says there are 5.0 million to 5.4 million Iranian nationals living abroad, which would mean about 7 percent of all Iranians live outside Iran. Sajjadi did not say how he came up with that number, which appears high to many observers. But, if it is correct, it means that far more Iranians have fled the regime than previously known.
