Vahid Khorsand, if confirmed by the City Council, will move to the Board of Public Works from his current post as deputy director of land use for City Councilman Bob Blumen-field.

“Vahid has dedicated his life to lifting up communities and making sure city government opens doors of opportunity for our residents and that makes him the ideal leader to help us deliver the core services that make our neighborhoods work,” Mayor Eric Garcetti said in announcing the nomination February 9.

Khorsand previously worked as Garcetti’s West Valley area representative from 2020 to 2021, according to the mayor’s office. During that time, he organized mobile COVID-19 vaccine clinics, resources for small businesses and the distribution of personal protective equipment to organizations in the West Valley.

Khorsand said, “I look forward to getting to work with my fellow Angelenos and digging in on important public infrastructure projects through the city.”

Khorsand moved to Los Angeles from Tehran when he was four years old, growing up in Porter Ranch and Granada Hills. He graduated from California State University, Long Beach, and received an MBA from Pepperdine University.

The five-member Board of Public Works serves as an executive team that oversees the Department of Public Works’ operations and 5,000 employees.  The board oversees public projects throughout the city, including bridges, wastewater treatment plants, graffiti removal, sidewalk and street maintenance and more.
