Kiarostami’s latest drama was presented in the Special Screenings Section of the festival held by the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York. The film festival ran from September 28 to October 14 with 32 films shown.
Co-produced by France’s MK2 and Japan’s Eurospace, Kiarostami’s newest film premiered at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.
Shot in Tokyo and Yokohama, the Japanese-language drama depicts an unusual relationship between a young woman student and a brilliant, elderly academic.
The $4.8-million picture is Kiarostami’s second production since he left Iran and settled in France. His first, “Certified Copy,” was also produced by the French company MK2.
“Certified Copy” was filmed in Tuscany,, Italy and premiered at the 2010 Cannes Film festival, where it won the Best Actress Award of the French festival for its leading actress Juliette Binoche.
