Ninety-one-year-old Ahmad Jannati (photo) has submitted his resignation as one of the Friday prayer leaders delivering sermons in Tehran. He is not, however, resigning his post as head of the Council of Guardians. Many suspected the need to stand while presiding over Friday prayers had prompted Jannati to resign. He has not taken a role at Friday prayers since September 2016.
