Israel s ex nuke boss says Iran s bomb far far away

The head of Israel’s military intelligence, Major-General Amos Yadlin, recently told the defense committee of the Knesset, the Israeli parliament, that Iran will probably be able to build one nuclear device this year.

But Eilam, who is said to be informed about Iran’s developments by former colleagues, suggested Israel has ulterior motives for its hardline stance on Iran’s nuclear proliferation.

The “defense establishment is sending out false alarms in order to grab a bigger budget,” Eilam said, reported The Sunday Times of London.  He also implied some politicians may be using Iran to divert attention from domestic problems.

Eilam is also skeptical that an oft-speculated Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear installations would yield Israel the intended results.

“One strike is not practical. To delay the Iranian program for three to four years, one needs a fleet of aircraft, which only a superpower can provide. Only America can do it,” Eilam said..
