Is it Persian or Dari?

The BBC has stirred anger among some purists in Afghanistan after it named its web page for Afghans BBC Dari.  Many in Afghanistan say thy speak Persian and decry the term Dari as one imposed by Pashto speakers to try to deny Afghans a place in the Persian speaking world.  Afghan Persian is largely the same as Iranian Persian except for some differences in accent, usage and vocabulary.  For example, Afghans never adopted “merci” as Iranians did and still say “motta-shakaram” for thank you.
