Iraq weapons deal

February 07-2014

The Iraqi ambassador to Iran told the Tasnim news agency Monday that Baghdad has signed an agreement to buy Iranian weapons, an announcement that raised many eyebrows around the Middle East.  Post-Saddam Iraq has gotten most of its weapons, though not all, from the United States.  The ambassador did not say if the two countries had signed a contract or just another memorandum of understanding, of which dozens exist that have never been implemented.  He also did not mention a dollar amount or any specific weapons to be bought.
