The Iraqi government says it will begin paying the members of the militia forces long funded by Iran and will permit them to work out of Iraqi military bases as part of an effort to integrate them into the Iraqi armed forces—meaning to separate them from Iranian influence. The New Arab website said 80,000 militia fighters would each be paid 910,000 dinars or about $800 a month. It said this would make them subject to the Iraqi military justice system.
