Iranian wins Princeton art award

August 08, 2014

Iranian-American researcher Sara Sadr has received Princeton University’s “Art of Science” award for her photograph of the impact of water on a beach.
An exhibition at the university displays the artwork of Princetonians past and present that highlights the interplay between art and science. The entries were chosen for their aesthetics as well as the scientific or technical interest they may hold.
This year was the seventh Princeton University Art of Science competition.
“Watermark,” from postdoctoral researcher Sara Sadr, was this year’s first-place winner. The pattern in the image was created by water moving back and forth on an Atlantic coast beach.
“As a hydrologist, I am fascinated by the natural phenomena of our beautiful planet,” Sadr said. “The way water in this picture found its way back to the ocean reminded me of a peacock’s tail spreading under the sun, or a woman’s hair blowing in the wind.”
