Iranian photographer Majid Saeedi has won the first prize in this year’s Lucas Dolega photojournalism competition held in Paris.
Saeedi won the award from among 148 final contestants.
He is an internationally recognized photographer with a focus on the humanitarian aspect for the past two decades.
Saeedi says he also takes a special interest in telling the untold stories of social issues and social injustice through his photos.
His work has been published in the international press including Der Spiegel, Life, The New York Times, The Washington Post and Time magazine.
Saeedi is the first non-European photographer to received the Lucas Dolega Award, which is in its third yeasr and is named for a French/German photojournalist. Dolega started work as a photographer for European Pressphoto Agency in April 2006. He was reportedly killed by Tunisian police while photographing a protest in Tunis.
