President Rohani this month attended the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization but Iran was still not admitted to the group. The SCO has eight members China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Iran has been trying to join for years. A few years ago, Russia said Iran would be eligible to join as soon as an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program was reached. That was reached 2-1/2 years ago. There has been no explanation why Iran is still confined to observer status.
