Iran met with the Big Six countries last October and again in January to discuss its nuclear program. No progress was made either time.
In February, Catherine Ashton, the EU foreign policy chief who chairs the talks, wrote Saeed Jalili, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security council, proposing another round.
Jalili announced Tuesday that he had finally replied.
Jalili’s letter implied that Ashton was at fault for the delay. “I am happy you are returning to talks,” the text said.
President Ahmadi-nejad said the next round of talks would be held in Istanbul, although neither a date nor a location was mentioned in Jalili’s letter, which simply agreed to another round.
