Syria is under US and EU sanctions and cannot sell most of its oil, so Iran has quietly stepped into the breach and is buying the oil to fund the Syrian government.
Reuters said three Iranian tankers loaded up with Syrian crude during July and sailed to unknown destinations. A fourth Iranian tanker delivered diesel to Syria in July and loaded up with a cargo of gasoline that it took back to Bandar Abbas.
