The Iranian Navy announced that its warships in the Red Sea saved a merchant ship flying the Hong Kong flag from seizure by Somali pirates Saturday. The Navy said it received a distress call from the ship, which it did not name, and sailed to the scene. The announcement said the Iranian Navy “clashed” with the pirates who then fled the scene, allowing the Hong Kong vessel to sail on its way. We have found nothing about this rescue in the Hong Kong papers.
