The firm’s director for standardization, Kayvan Vaziri, said Iran Khodro has already dramatically improved the fuel efficiency of its cars from 26.5 miles per gallon in 2009 to 29.7 mpg in 2010.
Vaziri said Iranian cars would now be close to the global average for auto efficiency, which he said was 33.1 miles per gallon, based on a report by the World Green Transportation Council. But the only reference the Iran Times could find when googling the World Green Transportation Council were in stories from Iran quoting Vaziri.
Vaziri also said the average mileage for GM cars was 20.8 miles per gallon, which is impossible since the US legal requirement for automakers from 1990 through 2010 was 27.5 miles per gallon. This year it rose to 30.2 mpg.
Vaziri cited his statistics in liters per 100 kilometers rather than miles per gallon.
