The Committee to Protect Journalists says Iran is second to China in the number of journalists now jailed. In China, the number rose from 32 last year to 44 now. In Iran, the number fell from 35 last year to 30 currently. Turkey, which was the world’s biggest jailer of journalists the last two years, released dozens over the past 12 months and held only seven until arresting another five last week.
