Iran in US campaign:

Jeff Flake (photo) and investor Wil Cardon are competing for the GOP nomination primary. Cardon is now making a big deal of the fact that before going to Congress in 2000, Flake was a lobbyist for a uranium mine in Namibia that is 15 percent owned by Iran and that Flake is one of a handful of congressman who have routinely voted against sanctions on Iran. Flake calls the suggestion that he was helping Iran ridiculous, saying he didn’t even know Iran owned an interest in the mine until last year. Flake says his votes against Iranian sanctions don’t mean he supports Iran but rather that he opposes sanctions. He says he has long opposed all such unilateral sanctions, whether on Iran or Cuba or Sudan or Myanmar or any other country.
