Trade between Iran and Europe jumped 94 percent in the first half of 2017 from the same time in 2016, based on the latest figures released by the European Union’s statistics agency, Eurostat.
The jump was mainly due to Europe returning to its old pre-sanctions level of oil buying. But Iran also boosted its purchases of EU products.
Iran-Europe two-way trade stood at 9.9 billion euros ($11.5 billion) in the first six months of this year, while the figure was 5.1 billion euros in the same period in 2016.
uropeans imported 5 billion euros of goods from Iran in the first half of 2017, showing 224 percent growth from 1.54 billion euros in the same period in 2016.
EU exports to Iran registered a 37 percent rise, hitting 4.9 billion euros, while the figure stood at 3.56 billion in the same time of the preceding year.
